Twin Ottoman Bath of Trikala
Duration: 30’10’’
In the heart of Trikala, the restored twin Ottoman bath tells a hidden story. The city’s only double hammam—shared by both men and women—was part of the Osman Shah complex, built in the 16th century next to the mosque designed by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan. By the late 19th century, the bath was converted into a prison, a function it retained for over a century. The Ottoman monument was brought back to light in 2001, following exploratory work on the ground floor of the building. The film unravels this journey of rediscovery through historical documents, personal testimonies, and evocative images of the building itself—an enduring vessel of memory through the centuries.
